We have said farewell to our friend and fellow BMS missionary to Nepal Phil Rawlings. His brilliant website is www.philrawlings.com
We had a great time at his birthday/ farewell/ commissioning ball. Mike was being likened to Flat Stanley, but Fran did show her Mr. Greedy tummy in an original dress made by her mum.

We are in the final lap before our next big upheaval; 7 weeks ( or thereabouts) until baby 2 comes along and it is going to be pretty mental after that before we go to Nepal. If baby comes on time we are looking at flying when she is 10 weeks old. There will be a lot of packing, sorting and organising ( and a few injections) to be done in the 10 weeks, so we are trying to get on top of everything as we know how much harder it is to do anything with no sleep and a demanding newborn. We have the birth pool and are planning on having her here in college.
The course is a bit lighter this term, with fewer assignments and more of an emphasis on 'going'. We are 2/3 through a placement time where we are both working at different charities in Birmingham; to kind of get an idea of work in mission, and to get us out of this 'bubble' environment.

We are packing up from a very relaxing 2 weeks in Shap Cumbria with family to return to IMC.
Fiona has had a brilliant time this Christmas, we have all eaten so much, and Fiona has developed an obsession with dogs.
We have been over to Newcastle on a visit and Fran has been in London doing dentistry with Crisis at Christmas.

We are looking forwards to everything 2012 will bring!

We had a meeting today and are now going to Kathmandu, Nepal in the Summer! We are really pleased as we have had a really difficult 3 weeks of waiting to see if BMS would repost us somewhere else following us deciding that Mozambique was too much for us as a family at this time .

In the waiting time we have been learning about the real discipline of taking each day as it comes, without any future to speak of, to plan for or to get worried about (well, maybe worry has been a bit more of a discipline to keep away!) We have felt God speak into our circumstances about His light being to our feet, meaning we should take each step and let His path stretch before us in the veiled future.

The confusing part is that we have been offered a 2 year post, when previously were going to just 'live' with an indefinite timescale. We are still going as long termers but the future beyond this 2 year period is still to be illuminated. It is still our intention to get fully immersed in the Nepali culture and be the best witnesses possible.

The last few weeks of uncertainty have been hard and tiring and it is such a pleasure to have a sense of peace about where we are going next. We both felt this was right for us as a family and that total agreement is very rare, further confirming this was right.

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord...

We haven’t blogged for ages as we have been having a really difficult time here at IMC. About a month ago now we had a meeting about our placement in Mozambique. Several things had come together to mean it was getting more and more complicated. We have thought through issues of Malaria safety and also the actual team and roles we would be going to in Beira. Mozambique is a new country for BMS to be working in, and the ‘starting up’ process and networking is just beginning. We decided that we did not feel that it was the right option for us as a family for now. It has been a stressful and traumatic time, as we have been on this road for a long while, and taking another route has been a difficult decision.

So... we are here at IMC and are waiting for a meeting on the 6^th December, where hopefully there will be another option for overseas placement. The regional team leaders for other areas are looking through our papers at the moment and we are waiting. It has been a difficult lesson in living in the present, as the future is totally unknown and playing guess God’s plan only leaves us in anxiety.

Fiona hasn’t let it bother her, she is dashing around and shouting ‘HIYA!’ at everyone. She has graduated from calling Mike ‘mummy’ to calling him ‘mummydaddy’ which is progress.

Birmingham is packed full of Christmas already, we ventured in on Saturday with Fran’s sister, and were caught in shopping traffic jams on the high street so bad that we couldn’t even walk!

We spent last weekend on our church weekend away at Sneaton Castle, Whitby. This provided an opportunity to catch up with people which we didn’t have chance to see before leaving and a great opportunity to serve our sending church. Plus I was able to get out and see some of the wonderful North Yorskshire coast.

On the Saturday morning we received some fantastic looks walking down the street. Fran was pushing a double buggy transporting the Smith twins and I was carrying Fiona in the backpack carrier whilst pushing Naomi in her buggy. Two adults and four babies and only on a closer inspection could people see they weren’t all ours. A great distraction for passing motorists. We were doing the crèche and loving it.

The biggest thing of the weekend for me (Mike) was the journey back to Newcastle. We managed to do it without stopping as Fiona was asleep until two hours into the journey then was awoken prematurely due to me shouting at another driver who nearly ran us off the road, she was then in a zombie state for over an hour. As we came through Birmingham she then began to stir.

My reaction was to say ‘It’s ok Fiona, we’re nearly home’ Then it hit me what I’d said. This is now home for me, it may have taken two weeks, a few tears and some male bonding but I see this as home. After seeing Fiona running around in the sun drenched garden playing with all of the action team member and other kids I see that she is very happy to be here. Fran is also beginning to slide into the pace of life and with a few more sunny days her heart maybe fully here.

I’m enjoying the course, the people and having more time with my family. This and the fact that we are nearly there with support for this year are major confirming facts that we are exactly where God wants us to be, He’s been and is so good.

The departing...

I dont think either of us realised exactly how hard this packing up thing would be. It seems to be none stop and in with that we are having lots of lasts. I spent today delivering another load of our stuff to the storage depot (aka Fran's mum and dad's) but was rewarded by sunshine as i drove over the north pennines on the way home for the last time. I then collected Fiona from the childminder who had seen the childminders daughters for the last time. I then returned home for Fiona's weekly observation for the last time.

We haven't really had time to stop in the last couple of weeks and i expect that when we arrive at IMC we will hit the road running as well. It's not sunk in that Milo is no longer with us or that we are leaving all of our friends up here. I feel like taking a leaf out of Fiona's book.

The irony of all this is that the parable of the rich man is coming up alot this week. Especially

²¹ ... go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19

Now we know there is more to this parable than this one line but at this unsettling time it is being a comfort for me.

I know in my head that times are hard because we are being refined and that following Jesus wholeheartedly has it's sacrifices but i just wish, probably like most people, it was easy.

We had a scan today and the new baby is going to be very wriggly! all is a go-go for mid March.

But with that news, we had to say goodbye to our first substitute child on Friday. Milo went to his new and rather wonderful home and we are sure he is going to have the time of his life ( truly; a fabulous home, and he is allowed on the sofa!)

Leaving Newcastle has actually become a reality following this bank holiday weekend. We offloaded a car load of stuff to Shap and Mike has been dropping off bedroom furniture.. however this leaves us with clothes and no storage and it seems that every room has piles of things to 'sort' that we had hidden from sight. It is a little overwhelming to say the least.

Fran has just 3 days left at work now, and will be sad to leave. Mike has had a great time with fiona. She has started to walk falteringly and has a couple of bumps just from this evening as her sense of space and ability are just falling behind her enthusiasm at the moment.

We still have a triple leksvig wardrobe and a corner sofa to get homes for, and Milo's kennel needs to go to a good home if possible.

Last visit and first steps

This weekend we went to Druridge bay for the last time! fiona loved it and would definitely have swam in the North sea if she hadn't been held back a bit!
She did 4 steps today, but hasn't mastered the 'walking between places' yet; her limiting factorr is when she falls on her face!

We are also saying a last farewell to Milo on Friday, today he and Fran had their last run, which was poignant.

Just 3 weeks to go now, and things are coming together; we have had a second viewing on the house today, and have had a few others; so lets all be praying that we get a decent offer soon. In terms of other financial things; we are still a little concerned ; but trusting God for the finer details. We are trying to stay focussed on the huge transition we are about to be facing.

The pregnancy is going well however, and Mike is really enjoying his few days as a stay at home daddy...

Hi there,

News first... Gauntlet # 2 is being cooked nicely in time for mid march, prior to us moving in the Summer.

We have around 4 weeks left in Newcastle to Work ( F) to pack ( both) and to tie up final loose ends before moving. Please pray that we get further with the house sale....

We are just back from our holiday in Cornwall. We had a great time near Looe, with Fran's family. We got to be blessed by John Gillespie doing evening preaching at Grace Family Bible week again this year. http://www.gracecc.org.uk/ This year he spoke on Song of Solomon which was excellent.

Fiona had a lovely time being centre of attention, and swimming happily in the very cold sea.

So if you read this, if you pray... Please pray for the safety of the new baby, the house sale, the move, adjustment and financial provision for our time in ministry training in Birmingham.

Beginning to feel part of the family

Last week we visited Baptist House in Didcot for our induction day. It was an informative array of meetings which gave us more idea of the structure of the training course at IMC, the finances of what we have been called to, and the support which BMS gives to their missionaries.

Speaking personally (mike) it felt a little strange at times. All of the stuff being said could have been overwhelming but it wasn't. It was just confirming. (thank you Lord)

Life at IMC started to move from being a blur into a well focused picture. The course structure became clear and the logistics of having Fiona whilst training began to drop into place.

With regards to finances we were hoping that BMS would sit us down and tell us what we needed to support raise for training. It didn't quite happen like that. We got told it was up to us as only we could understand our own needs. Why didn't we think of that earlier i then started to ask myself?

As for the support we will receive whilst serving overseas it seems like we've gained yet another family. A family of experience, a family that has members who can produce resources and publications, a family who will ensure we have everything we need to do the work God has for us, a family who will pray for us always knowing where we are in the world and roughly what we are doing, a family which has so many members and yet remains close at all times. Great, I just hope i can remember everyone's names and roles.

So i guess in short things are just seeming a lot more real. This is happening, and bare in mind i only have 8 more days at work as i write this, very rapidly at that. We aren't scared, we are excited. Even with things still to sort, like selling the house & moving and Fran finishing work, we know that everything on this journey is in God's hands and we thank you for praying along with us.

Sorry it has taken too long to update her. But we have our news. We have been accepted to be long term missionaries with the Baptist Mission Society. We will be moving to Birmingham to the IMC training centre for a residential period of around 9 months. This is bible school, cross cultural mission training and preparation. Then..... we will be moving to MOzambique May-June 2012 time. All very exciting. Please would you pray 1) for a home for Milo 2) for a solution for the house 3) for sanity organising all this with the prospect of communal living and toddler raising 4) Fran's MFDS part 2 exam in MAy. THank sx

Christmas

We hope everyone else had a great Christmas and New Year. We had a lovely time at church on the day, then driving to Shap for a week. Fran was on Street Pastors on Christmas and New Years eve.

It was great to spend some time with Olivia, fiona's cousin. They wore their matching father Christmas suits and ate lots of wrapping paper.

Now real life has started again. Fran is back at work 3 or 4 days and Fiona is at the childminder. A big adjustment for everyone. The biggest challenge being getting everone out of the house by 720 am!

Decision made

Decisions!
We were faced with a big decision in the last few weeks. Since we first met- ( at an agape world missions student conference) it has always been a big 'idea' and our lives have been peppered with overseas mission in the last 5 years, with home mission inbetween. Mission is the 'calling' of every Christian; in whatever form that takes, although it is clear to us that God has given us a special passion for other cultures, and a willingness to travel to fulfil the Great Commission and to increase the Glorification of God.

We had gone ahead with the application to become 'long term' missionaries with BMS, and 2 weeks ago we met with 2 of their staff in our home. We were offered some amazing opportunities, and we spent the next week seeking wise advice and personally praying through the opportunities. We had wonderful babysitters and went for a meal. Both of us coming with the sense that this was good, hard, but of God. Interestingly we were astounded at the accuracy of the answer to prayer that the reps from BMS brought. I am being a bit cagey- mainly as the plans are not finalised and I would not want to cause anyone any confusion.The next stage is the 2 day interview- the 'candidate board'- so we may still be in Newcastle next year! However, if we pass through this stage we would be moving to an international missions college in Birmingham as a family next Summer, before moving overseas the following June.

I (F) am really struggling with the specific costs of the move, namely moving FURTHER from my parents ( among other amazing and wonderful people). This is very tough, as we love being 90 minutes away from fiona's granny and grandpa, and would love to be closer. However; I do believe that this is good, and right and that there will be a time that we will be close to my mum and dad again... at the moment we plan to be away for a long enough time for that to be our life, our real friends, our real jobs- rather than just a trip. However we would like to be back before Fiona was due to be in Secondary School.So....pray for us please. More about plans as it becomes more set. Currently nothing much has happened apart from a heart decision. lets just wait and see...

Weaning

So. We enter a new and messy phase of parenting. Fiona has started to have some baby rice. This is earlier than ideal ( she is exactly 5 months) but Fran is going back to work and we are just trying to educate Fiona that food can come in another form other than boobie.

She isn't getting very much ( more all over her face really!) but she does like it!

Other news- Fran has been really sick with a temperature and strep throat; probably related to the lack of sleep low immunity. We are hoping that a little bit of food may help Fiona to sleep for more than 3 hours at a stretch.

Holidays

We have just returned from a week in Turkey. It was the second week of Mike's paternity leave, which meant we could go before half term.

The holiday was good and sunny; Fiona was a very good girl- even swimming in the sea. It was a little hard for her with all the changes-and as a result she didnt sleep much for fear of missing out!

Other than the holiday we are starting to think more about fran starting back at work. Fiona will be going to a childminder 3 days a week.

We started solids this week too- a little messy! We have BMS coming for another chat on Nov. the 9th, so following that we will have a bit more idea about what will happen next year.

Hi there...

I am so sorry that we haven't updated the blog for ages.

This is Fiona. She is now 4 months.

We have had an amazing Summer. Obviously the first few weeks with fiona were an adjustment, but we have been Manchester for Fran's Dad's retirement do... and to Cornwall for Grace Bible Week.

We are also proud to announce the arrival of Fiona's cousin Olivia on June 23rd.

SO... the big decisions are looming. This Summer has also been a time for us to explore exactly where we want to be and what we want to be doing. We are exploring the BMS ( Baptist Mission Society) opportunities for long term service. We have had an initial interview in Didcot, and another one coming up in November. At the moment we are deliberating, praying and seeking councel about whether we do want to up sticks and go to serve God overseas or whether to stay here and take up our careers as our mission field.

Then there is the question of whether we stay in Newcastle or now. Our house has unfortunately been totally hit by the recession, with all the money we have invested in it being lost if we sold it now. But, really; if we stay in the UK we would really like to be near to mum and dad.

Anyway... if anyone has any ideas do let us know... for now; Fran is going back to work in December with Fiona to the childminder 3 days a week. Mike is doing really well at work in Sunderland.

We are nearing the end of May; no sign of baby's imminent arrival, but Fran is now on Maternity leave.

We had a meal to celebrate this and Fran's birthday. It was lovely that so many people came- although a little strange and segregated as work friends and church friends didn't really mix.

We have had a bit of an emotional week this week too- Westgate Baptist is holding a 24/7 prayer event which is inspiring and powerful. God's people are humbling themselves and casting their anxieties on Him.

We have had our fair share of anxieties; Mike was asked to reappply for a job in which he was not successful at the interview this time last year. The school is literally walking distance from us, and a 'private' school. We got our hopes up thinking how much of a change the loss of the 90 minute commute would be every day- especially with the baby. But we knew it would be a compromise as we would ideally like to be leaving Newcastle in July 2011, so if he got it we may need to stay so that he had done a few years.

But he didn't get it. God has obviously got better ideas than us. I ( FRAN) feel humbled by his power and total care in answering our prayers for His will to be done. It is pretty exciting to think that he has something better planned ( as we thought this would be pretty good!)

Now I guess the prayer is for more movement and direction in the plans for overseas mission, or relocation. Oh, and for a safe ( and sooooooon) delivery of Fiona.

It feels like time is going really quite quickly. We have been moving from exciting event to exciting event and still have a few to go until our lives change completely with the baby's arrrival.

Fran has been to Edinburgh with work, and then to an outdoor pursuits weekend with work. Canoeing may not be how everyone spends the last few weeks of pregnancy but things are going really well and so staying active is good for everyone! Baby Fiona is doing well, Fran's belly has grown a whole 2 cm in 1 week and she is in the right position for birth. Just 1 more week before maternity leave actually starts- but she has finished her days in Southshields practice; next week in the hospital.

Mike is well- and with the last few weeks of the year meaning exams, it is a time of lots of work.
He is looking forward to his first father's day in June. hurray.

Milo is well; definitely aware that change is af00t- but we hope he will be lovely and gentle when baby F comes.

We are off to Redworth Hall for Fran's 25th (on Tuesday) this weekend. Very good deal on Lastminute.com. Then seeing Fran's mum and dad for lunch. Yay. So much to look forward to.

Easter, and more

We had a great Easter- enjoying celebrating Jesus' resurrection at Westgate Baptist followed by a grand tour of the country to see the families.

It was great to see the folks in Chesterfield; and Mike's Gran had a wonderful time in China- already talking about going to India next year. Then we went to Manchester to see Fran's clan. Laura and Matt also came up from Bristol and it was fun to compare bumps and nice to have a last visit as 'daughters and sisters' rather than 'mothers and auntys'.

We came back for a scan; and Fiona is growing lots, already 4lbs 8 with a projected due date weight of 7lbs 11. We are really excited and ready ( or so we think ) the nursery is all made up and the hospital bag is packed, repacked and packed again. CAN'T WAIT!!

Week 30

We are chugging on nicely. This weekend to Cardiff for the OMS mission conference, and then the weekend after Fran is off to London to see Charlotte and to sit the MJDF exam.

So.. the theme at the moment is revision... again. Only 10 months since finals and another exam? mad? yep, but to get this part of the membership exam done is Fran's major plan prior to baby invasion.

Mike is working really hard at school on the key stage 3 and 4 curriculum, and we are enjoying getting the house a little more sorted in preparation.

The baby is pretty big now, with only 7 weeks until she is considered 'term' All tests have been normal so far- apart from the fact that she is breech and seems pretty happy there. We made a decision to change hospitals to the Queen Elizabeth in Gateshead for the birth and had a visit there las week. It was super exciting and we can't wait!!

Paris...

Well, it is half term, we are gradually coming out of the freeze; but today got another little spatter of snow.

The half term has been really good, we have been to Paris for a couple of days and Mike has been mountain biking with Milo to a bothy. We have enjoyed the hospitality of Chris and Jane and have seen the beautiful wedding of Danielle and Matt Moore. Phew!

Fran is having a great pregnancy, just now into the third trimester and getting a little more tired as baby fiona is concentrating on putting on weight and growing in size. Energy is coming in fits and starts, and today a whole day's worth of activity happened before 10 am with a 3 hour nap to follow!

On a more long term note we are seriously considering what the future holds and how we get there. We have been in touch with Redcliffe College and are praying about a residential missions training course sometime in the future. What remains though is that we are settled until at least July 2011 with work committments, and so the next step is a little way off yet. Any input would be gratefully recieved.

half way there

We are now half way through the pregnancy and all is well at the moment. We have a scan on Monday when we will be 21 weeks and will find out the sex of the little bean.

Christmas and New Year have all gone really well, we had a very snowy time and enjoyed seeing family in Shap and Chorley; with a flying visit to Chesterfield before Christmas.

New Year was particularly special; as we spent the night in a 'bothy' at kielder with 2 feet of snow, the 3 mile walk from the truck was a bit of a slog- but well worth it to get into narnia and away from the anticlimactic NYE parties.

Work is going well for both of us; Mike has recently had fantastic results from some of his exams; and so is chuffed to bits.

We have formally enquired about Long term overseas mission starting September 2011; and would appreciate prayers for a positive response and a beginning to setting the wheels in motion.

Baby gaunt ( aka the gauntlet) is due on the 31st of May. This means that fran is now about 14-15 weeks, and definitely starting to show. That is if the huge amount of eating and baby chat hasn't given the game away already.

Mike is still working hard at school- only 12 days left until the Christmas holidays.

Fran is working hard in practice this week. The details for maternity leave etc have been finalised, with 6 months off, and then going back as just a practice dentist and not a hospital part.

The new truck still isnt fixed and definitely isnt insured due to the huge yawning overdraft- although we have managed to get a cot and moses basket and other things from freecycle. BONUS!!

The news

Well.

It has been quiet on here for a while, as we have both been ill with the swine flu. And also it has been a complete trial to keep our little secret, so I knew that if I wrote a blog then it would probably just 'slip out'

So, the secret then..we are having a baby. This came as a little surprise, and has taken a bit of getting used to, especially so soon after Fran has started work. The finer details of maternity leave etc are going to be organised this week, but it is all a little stressful until we know what is going on.

The baby gauntlet is coming at the end of May providing all goes well. We had a scan last week; several people have commented that it looks like a guinea pig, which is a little disturbing.

Business

Well- of course we have been busy- we are always busy- but September has been busy-tastic.

Mike started work again- which is good- and is getting into a routine and feeling more incontrol of lessons etc. We have been all over- with Frans mum's 60th , low wood and the lakes and this weekend is the Great North Run. Next weekend is the church weekend away and then it is game over for September. Sadly it seems from this paragraph that we are living for the weekends... but infact we are very busy midweek too- and when we get half the chance we both flop on the sofa infront of 'the wire'.

So is this all working life has to offer? I really hope not. I want to be the kind of person who lives even 8-6 not just after work is over. I have had some contact with a fella from Tanzania who runs a dental clinic. I am so blessed by this but of course it has really meant that God's plan is becoming clearer- and attacks on that are all the more vicious.

Mum is coming for the Great North Run and I am excited to be so well supported. I am not timing myself, just getting round and enjoying it- I am at least a stone heavier than when I last ran it so i am not hoping for a PB! If I can make it to South Shields before the red arrows I shall be pleased.

The other thing that is happening is that everybody we know seems to be sprogging up. Congratulations!

August Bank Holiday

Well there is a few things which i thought i should mention. I spent some time in Manchester at the OMS office having a debrief and a chat.

It was a great time, but no conclusions were formed. We ended up with lots of questions about where we are going to go in the future both figuratively and geographically. We need to spend some time in prayer and your prayers would be much appreciated.

We started to look at visiting Haiti at Easter and in true Mike and Fran style, whilst looking at flights, I said to Fran 'i don't really want to go to Haiti' Fran's reply was 'Good cos neither do I'. So the plan is that we are going back at Easter to MZ! We've started looking at flights but we aren't sure whether Fran can get the time off yet.

And for now we have a house full, Andy, Liz, James, Lee, Pip, Kara, Logan, and us and we're all of camping on Friday to Blaithwaite House. Great Fun!

The Ramble on Return

Well I’m home. I landed on Friday and thought I would use the first few days to adjust to being back before trying to digest the last week of the trip.

The last week was a bit crazy. In the last few days I spent the majority of the time at

the seminary. Strangely I found this really hard. Due to unforeseen circumstances the seminary director returned to Canada with his family earlier this year so there is a limited life in the building. There are still classes and the offices of different ministries involved with OMS; ECC and CMED are based there but it feels like God is waiting to use this amazing facility and I just don’t understand why. (Mine is not to reason why but mine is just to do and die – saving private ryan)

Whilst I was there I had three main projects, all of which in true African style got a little more complicate than needed.

The first thing I was trying to achieve was to set up Daniel, a Palavra Viva Pastor and teacher at the seminary, with a laptop. Meeting became complicated as on the day we were first meant to meet Daniel had spent most of his time in the hospital. He had been diagnosed with Malaria and ended up getting treatment for the majority of the day. On the penultimate day of my trip I managed to catch up with him, and praise God he was doing a lot better. We managed to get him sorted and the smile on his face was immense.

After giving his existing computer the once over I understood why. He had managed to get it that infected with viruses that when I cleaned Windows wouldn’t work! Here we had one of the leaders of the denomination but he had little understanding of computers and internet security. This is a ministry I would love to be involved with in country – Let’s see what God has instore.

The second planned activity was to set up the CMED program with a new computer. Just 2 weeks before I went out their computer died beyond repair. I, in faith, said I would get the program a new computer and bring it out with me. When I got there they had been given a good second hand machine but as I hand promised them a new one I got them swapped over and set up. This was a good time to get to know Samuel, one of the CMED coordinators. He and Mario, who I and Fran already know, run the program.

It was apparent that they were both Godly men, who complement each other in ministry. Mario appeared to have an amazing financial mind and Samuel a very compassionate heart.

The third thing I got involved in was financial forecasting for a new business! One of my intentions was to help set-up an internet café – it soon became apparent I had interpreted communications wrongly. Mario and Samuel wanted to meet to discuss funding the program and so wanted to go through the business projection with me. Unknowingly to them this is something which I really enjoy doing (thanks to Mr. Watson from secondary school) It was so apparent why God had directed them towards me. I felt like I could help them understand all of the variables that go into establishing a business and the restrictions of revenue forecasting – I loved it. (Yes I know I am a geek). But it was apparent that they had taken a lot in and I left them with a model for establishing business projections which they could use and adapt in the future. I would love for God to use me in this area also, training in business

principles and financial management.

It had been there intention to establish this business to fund CMED in the future and guarantee funding for the program. My more cautious view showed that it would be a feasible business but would take a while to make a profit and would require some initial funding from an outside source until a profit could be reached. – I said that I would discuss the project with OMS in the UK so your prayers regarding this would be appreciated.

So that is where God lead me during the last week of the trip. What next?

Well, I and Fran are planning on returning to the country in April next year for a holiday. I got to see a little of the beautiful country and we are both eager to see more of it. We are hoping to hire a 4x4 and take a tent and just drive! And after that God only knows.

The first time we went out Fran was blessed with a heart for the country and God worked in my heart whilst I was there this time. After this trip it is apparent that there are many ways which God could use us. I (mike) would love it if God used me to teach at CAM, maintain IT infrastructure or help with CMED and I can now see there is the potential for Fran to have her own practice and do rural dental care as a compassionate ministry. As I write this my heart just feels so lead to the country and people (I’m nearly crying in the Marks and Spencer’s Café just thinking about it)

As for the logistics we don’t know. We are seeking God’s will and we just ask that He will open doors or close them and illuminate the path which He has for us. We know we have two years in the UK at least, due to Fran’s job, and as a result I have decided I am going to stay in my current job until her contract ends.

There are so many amazing things which God has done in me, through our relationship, and I just want to say He has made me content with where I am at. The verse of my trip is Romans 8v25

BUT IF WE HOPE FOR WHAT WE DO NOT YET HAVE, WE WAIT FOR IT PATIENTLY

And I know that God is preparing me and Fran for so much. I just ask that you make us accountable to this and encourage us to hold on the vision as it wanders.

Fran's update

I am nearly to the end of my first week at my dental practice. I work 8-6 mon-thurs, which works brilliantly this week as mike gets back on Friday (yay) So far I really like practice, with nice patients, a variety of work and excellent support from my trainer and also my fabulous nurse Rachel. I still haven’t got to work properly as I keep getting lost a different lost each day… ah well- I have 2 years to get it right.

Last Saturday I was out in toon for my first streetpastors. To say that it was interesting is an understatement. I felt the huge priviledge of being part of the team of police, bouncers and ambulance crews. It was exhausting (I didn’t get to my bed until after 5) and also pretty harrowing to see the tales of the lack of love that so many are living. I am studying Ephesians at the moment, and I really think that the life of Christ is the only solution. It is inconceivable how this problem of brokenness can be fixed by even the most skilled teams and human organisations.
I felt so glad to be able to use my training in small ways such as taking medical histories and initially assessing 2 head injuries whilst waiting for ambulances. The warmth of the reception from so many people was just great; and many had seen us on the telly in the bbc ‘my big decision’ programme about binge drinking.

I am excited to have Mike back, so excited actually. We have heaps to talk about- including planning an exciting trip back to Africa methinks- as the continent has infected him on this trip!( hurray! and yes- I did happen to be praying for something along those lines)

If you know me you will know that I am praying for another interesting thing just now- and every now and then get a little worried that I can’t see how things work out. But I think that is what praying in faith is about actually. Praying for something and trusting God to manage the details and the circumstances. And He is good.

I had a difficult conversation with my boss in Young Church this week. I have thoroughly enjoyed leading a group of 7-11 year olds for the last 2 and a half years. Previously this has been a 2 in 6 week commitment, but circumstances and individual child need, combined with some central decision making has meant that there is to be a change. A weekly commitment is being asked, and I have prayed about this and know that this is not something I can do, to commit to that is impossible with our mad lifestyles at the moment, but also I really value the morning service at Church in terms of family-living in the body of Christ as well as solid teaching and worship. I also feel that although I am comfortable with the kids, and confident and enjoy leading- just because I can does not mean that God is calling me to do this. I feel that He is only going to grow character and gifts in me if I listen to His call, obey and trust that He will equip me, even when it seems that I have skills suited to something else.

New Starts with a bang...

This week was my first week of work. I survived.
I was in hospital; working on the emergency department; I saw lots of patients, and did a good few extractions. The most humbling event that made me really look at my responsibilities was seeing a wonderful patient with a huge swelling due to a dental abscess go into an addisonian crisis. This is something that I have only read about and in addition she had diabetes and it resulted in her admittance and transfer to the hospital. Ah.... Friday afternoon of my first week of work.... Next week I am in practice, another new challenge- but mike is back on Friday- woot-woot!!!

Missing mike hugely- he is in Xai Xai which is an idilic destination for a couple of days- but it is only 6 sleeps until he is home.

The next exciting thing starts today- I am going out in toon 930-430am as a Street Pastor. I get full uniform, and my own baggie of flip flops chocolate and water. This is an interdenominational initiative to deal with some of the pastoral problems in the city centre that are out of the juristiction of the police and nightclub staff. I am excited I think...nervous; but know that God really does love people like me who drink too much and fall over- just like He totally cared for and loved the woman at the well, and the tax collectors and prostitutes. So lets show that love- for He first loved us..

Increase in street pastor numbers

The number of people volunteering to be street pastors in Newcastle has risen since the scheme started last December.
Organisers say the number of pastors in the city has risen from an initial 35 to 53 in eight months.
The inter-denominational group patrols busy parts of the city on Friday and Saturday nights, carrying items like first aid kits and blankets.
They work alongside police officers and offer help and advice in an effort to reduce drink-related violence.
Co-ordinator Sam Douthwaite said: "We are there to offer pastoral care to people who may be vulnerable or a little bit worse for wear.
"The response from people on the street is generally good and we wear high-visibility jackets, so it is obvious exactly who we are.
'Good fun'
"We've been delighted with the response of people in the city who have come forward as volunteers."
Methodist minister Andrew Holmes and his daughter Fiona have recently joined the project.
Mr Holmes said: "I felt, like many others have, that I just wanted to get out there and help people.
"But we are not here to preach to people or to convert them in any way. We are there to demonstrate what it is to be part of the Christian faith."
His daughter Fiona said: "It's really good fun and it's a good time to share together, I enjoy it.
"I see a lot of my mates on the town while I'm out and they think it's great.
"It can be scary at times, but we are close as a team and work well with the police and the door staff on the pubs and clubs."

I think the little girl was as confused by the computer as I was. I visited a church pre-school at Kongolote today to give their computer the once over. In all honesty it was in great shape, they had been given this old, battered computer by the mission to do their accounts on for the pre-school. Within a week it had a new operating system and some more ram.

I was asked if I could give it the once over as Carlos said it was running a bit slow, so I had a look. I opened the case to check everything was ok only to be greeted by a stick. Not just any stick but one which was well dried out and bent in the right way. Its purpose was to hold a piece of cardboard over a whole in the case which had appeared after they had removed a piece of hardware. Both me and Dave Dedrick were baffled by this stick, what reason could there possibly be?

Well Dave and Carlos, the administrator of the preschool, began to chat. As the explanation evolved I understood a little but Dave had to translate for me. Apparently as the computer was a nice safe place a neighbouring rat decided it would be a great spot to settle down. God only knows how they came to find it, but if I understood correctly by the time they noticed it was living there it had begun to feast on the delights of the computer parts as well!

I'm still scratching my head and some missionaries on the field, who have been here for 14 years, were still amused by it. I don't think I’ll forget this one for a while.

Some Contrasts

Today was my second sunday back in Mozambique. It was a rather strange day. The plan had been to go to the city church and then visit with the Dedricks for lunch to arrange some sort of schedule for my remaining time.

The city church was great. It meets at the

seminary and has a mixture of young professionals and families attending. The message was on THE MISSION OF THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST. I was very impressed by the type of message and depth of bible knowledge of the speaker as he was only an occasional preacher. It was one of those sermons where i felt God speaking directly to me, reminding me of the mission. What i didn't get was a how and when, which is the frustrating bit. It would be so easy for me and Fran to settle in the UK but i really think God is wanting us to travel, a little at least. We both have a heart for it so please pray that we hear from Him as to whether it's His will.

In comparison to the other churches I have been to here, the setting and message were rather different. Also as a team from America was visiting the sermon was first in Portugese and then in English, meaning I was able to get a clear understanding! If you would pray about what

God is saying through this message to us that would be great.

The second contrast today was the weather. So far it has been dry, and apparently has been since May, but today a storm decided to come in! (It just happened to be the day i was driving for the first time) The roads in Maputo turned into rivers and it was so wonderful to see, in a weird way. It made me think that it isn't always nice and wonderful on the mission field! Last time we came it did rain a little, but all of my memories seem to be in wonderful settings and of seeing amazing things. Because of the weather i stayed at Larry and Susan's for lunch and rested afterwards. I think it is what i needed as two and a half hours later i had enough energy to blog.

I am hoping to have the chance to see some of the country whilst i am here. There is a city about 300 km's away called xai xai. This is a contrast to Maputo and i am hoping to spend a little time there before i return next week. It was mentioned that i could take a truck (4x4) and stay with some missionaries who live there - Fran didn't really approve and told me i need to take someone. 'What if you get held up?' Probably a good point as i have very little language and very little experience of driving here/being out of the city. The thing i liked the most about her caution was it showed that she wants me back! That is really nice to know as i am missing her with all my heart!

Stuck at home

Hi- Fran here, an update from Newcastle-

I started work today- I am a general professional trainee in the Northern Deanery- I do alternate weeks in practice, and rotating around 6 specialities over 2 years. I am in the hospital next week- starting in Emergency dentistry- this is a great first job in dentistry as it will give me a chance to find out what my strengths are and what I might be interested in- whilst still getting that firm foundation in practice.

It is pretty difficult on my own here, Milo has a bad foot so he isn't very good company- but luckily I have been keeping extra busy with a mad dash trip to eastbourne via shap and Liverpool (!) and this weekend Laura is coming to stay and we are going to Lindesfarne.
I am keeping in touch with mike on Skype- but it isnt the same. I am missing him a lot- especially today as I have so much to talk to him about and to debrief from my first day. Also I am pretty ready for a hug after a tiring week- and you cant do that on skype. God is reminding me of my reliance and my utter dependence on him for my point of reference when it comes to self esteem, normality and comfort. I am reading through Ephesians following visiting Ephesus on a wonderful trip with my mum. It is an exercise in faith to read that God has already created good works for me to walk in; ( eph 2,10) so that I dont have to strive.

Africa - The Third Time Around

Number one was our honey moon, number two was a vision trip, and number three is definitely to do the work God has set before me (mike).

It's been nearly a week since I left the UK, and 5 days since I arrived. At CAM I am working at nearly full speed to get things set up for the start of term (computer wise - not the whole school). As my list gets more things crossed off it, twice as many get put back on. It felt good today when some kids came in to use the web at school - one student and two friends. One of the friends said who's he? The student replied 'o, he's a missionary that comes out with OMS to help with school'. Made me think - is this a regular thing or something more?

I've also had some good times catching up with people we met last year. Larry and Susan are being amazingly hospitable with me and Dave and Anne have also tried to repeat the fattening up of the Gaunt's which occurred last year.

I met up with Mario to discuss the CMED program and it's evident the Internet Cafe isn't as far along as I thought. It is still in the proposal stage and he is wanting my help with the business plan to put forward to possible supporters in the Americas and the UK. Please can you pray for this as it is an area which I don't feel too comfortable in. We have arranged a meeting for next week.

I've also met some really amazing people called the Bower's. They have an amazing ministry working with upper class teenagers through outdoor pursuits (now can you see why I said amazing?). They are just setting up a camp and I think I am going to be able to help them set up an archery range and give them some guidance on how to instruct. It's nice to know God is using my abilities that I forgot about a long time ago. [These guys are truly awesome - I will explain when I can find out more as they have a book about their paths which God has directed them along!]

Thank you for checking up on me and for praying. If you could keep CMED and the meeting, and the start of CAM in your prayers that would be amazing. The teachers are starting to arrive and teacher training starts Monday. Fran is also starting induction tomorrow so please pray.

Mr and Dr Gaunt

This week has perhaps been the most stressful week of our lives. Mike is asleep on the sofa again- but that is to be expected I think. He has worked so hard. I have kept him awake with my anxiety for weeks, and this week my vivas put a strain on everything at the beginning of the week.

Then I got my results on Wednesday- I am finally a dentist! Poor mike got dragged to town and then out again on Thursday for the graduation ball at Slaley Hall. Then to top it all a scout (non-) sleep over on Friday has finished him off. I however went out with my new colleagues at the dental practive in South Shields which was great.

So.... what now? Well I (F) am planning on keeping my hand in over the next month doing some little projects in maxfax and perio. I go to Istanbul with the mothership after graduation in mid july and Mike is at work until then.

We have heaps of weddings and events, and then Mike is back to Mozambique for 3 weeks. So.. thats what we are up to.

So,

I thought that it was time to put an mid way photo of our garden on the blog. It was pretty ropey when we moved in, but we are getting there. I want you to see the lovely raised patio at the end, with chiminea and ikea patio funiture- all done by Mike and the friendly chavs from the street. Brilliant eh?

Infront of the shed is going to be my veggy patch- although it isnt really going anywhere as my exams start on the 18th (like, er, 5 days time) I have 5 written ones next week, then 2 weeks off, and then 4 spoken exams. Horrid, but the end is in sight- 4 weeks today........

Ok- the AND.... was referring to some new opportunities that God is possibly opening up to us. We always planned to be foster carers, but are wondering how this fits in in terms of time scale, and practicalities, we know the process takes ages- so we have just pushed at a door and are waiting to see how that opens or not.

AND.....there could possibly be some change afoot for Mike (more anon,) and of course Mozambique for him is all full steam ahead for the Summer (i am soooo jealous!)

I just returned home to find a BDA magazine on my desk, conveniently open to an article about Dublin and Mozambique. Now who do we know who's been to both of those places recently?

The article gave an overview of Fran's trip to Dublin and her experiences in Mozambique. (I've put the article below if you fancy a quick look) It is well worth the read in my opinion but then i am rather biased.

That nicely leads me onto the second reason to blog, Mozambique. As Fran mentioned the other day it looks like i am heading back this summer. This is a much needed kick up the bum that i needed regarding my summer. I had floated the idea about joining a team in the summer but it soon became apparent that no team was heading out from the UK till autumn at the earliest, which would be too late due to work.

After a period of a few weeks i received a rather formal e-mail from the field team outlining that my request to visit the field had been granted. Initially i felt a bit shocked. To my knowledge i hadn't formally requested a visit in the summer i had just floated an idea.

It soon hit me who's idea this was and we can all probably work it out without too much thinking. (not Fran's)

So it looks like I'm going out for a few weeks to aid the set up at CAM - the oms school in Maputo - and help with a computer lab at the bible seminary. Plans are not finalised yet as we are trying to figure out when is best to go so prayers for logistics and time frames would be especially appreciated. Prayers regarding how to finance the trip and purchase equipment for the computer lab would also be much appreciated.

I'll let you know as the plans evolve and become more exciting!

Miami, Exams, Mozambique

Lots to say.
Miami was successful- Fran's presentation went well but she did lose her phone, she has another one with the same number but no phone numbers, so that is good for revision!

Written final exams start on the 18th May, and June 10th is the results day. Hooray.

Mike is going to be going back to Mozambique in August, details still to be finalised.

Milo is, well, woof.

We survived a very stressful 2 weeks.

Well- We have survived a very hard two weeks; containing 7 interviews (f), 4hrs total of hardcore counselling, 2 days of ofsted inspection, exams, 3 head and neck surgeries and a flying visit to Manchester.

It remains to review that the news is GOOD!!! We are staying in Newcastle for the next 2 years. Fran has a job at a practice in south shields and an alternate week rotation in the dental hospital for the period starting August.

Mike did well, and passed his class inspection.

Milo is well and now walking to heal without a lead (only for mike- Fran is too soft!)

We are here this weekend in Newcastle and fully intend to REEEEEEElax and take it easy.

What a week

Well, we have been having some stressful times recently. Most traumatic I think was when Milo ate the tub of flora and promptly threw up on the new carpet.

Other than that Fran has done 3 of the 7 interview mountain, and we have been accidently looking at houses south of the river. (not seriously- as we might like real life monopoly but the monopoly money isn't real as we have found out.)

Mike is back at school after half term where we had his gran and the Crosslands + lee to stay and Fran had a kidney infection. (good timing)

It is really hard to get perspective at the moment as we are so busy and tired and have exams and offstead and lesson observations etc all piling up. Pete preeched at Church at the weekend on Weariness and the Lords promises in Isaiah about His strength and soaring on the wings of Eagles. It does feel like a weary time at the moment, and that is when the devil likes to get the boot in, so we pray for protection.

We are also praying for our friends the Thiessons who have had to return from Mozambique to Canada as their little son Gabrial has cancer and is being treated.

Interviews, Half term

Mike is on half term- and so in typical style is working really hard on the house and having lots of visitors.
We had a great weekend with Andy, Liz and Lee- and have Mike's gran to stay from tonight until Thursday.

Fran has her interviews for the GPT post this week and next- with a final one on the 3rd of March in Uni. So far 3 this week, and 2 next week- with one still to be arranged.
The practices all look really exciting, and they are very varied- ranging from Stockton in the south, to Ashington in the North. It is a little nerve wracking. The first one is Stockton on Tees on Wednesday at 5.

Milo is being very good- and enjoyed the visit up to Druridge bay with the Chesterfield lot on Saturday.

Long overdue catch up

Well we have been terrible at keeping this up to date.
So in bullet form here is what has gone on...

Mike is teaching top sets not bottom sets at school and so is a brilliant changed man!
Milo attacked a sheep- so is in intensive rehabilitation training.
We did 1000miles or more in less than a week over Christmas
Fran decided to be teetotal for 4 weeks following Christmas (detox needed!)
We sanded the floor in the hall
Mike turned 23
Fran has been shortlisted for a 2 year training post in Newcastle. And has 7 interviews!
Fran is going do her first trail run on the 21st March in the Lakes (16kms)
Fran is off to Miami to present an abstract at the International Association of Dental Research meeting.

So now that we are up to date it is time to waffle about hopes and dreams and that kind of thing.

At the moment it is dark and cold and horrible in Newcastle, but it does feel like we are coming out of the gloom and getting closer to the Summer. This Summer is going to be fantabulous as hopefully June 10 is results day for Fran and then Mike has a lovely 6 weeks off!

However it is also a really high pressure time at the moment, and although we know that God has it sorted it still feels so hard to be chipping away at important decisions and workload- where we cant see around the corner to inspire us with where we will be in 6 months- because at the moment it could be just about anywhere!!!

Sorry about that- there was a post underneath that last title, but it dissapeared!
I blame the computer fairies for that.

Well my interview was cancelled in Hull, as there was about 15 cm of snow and it was very icy and treacherous for driving; also the supervisor wasn't well, and the clinics weren't even open.

So; that was a bit of a let down, but it has left me very ill at ease. Since Thursday last week I (F) have been having real trouble sleeping, and am just finding it hard to give next year and all the decisions that it requires, to the LORD.Or, rather, maybe it is that I am finding it hard to leave them with the LORD, I do wish that He would send me an acknowledgement email, or at least text me to say that He got the message!!

Uni plods on, and Mike is still going at School. We both finish for the holidays on the 19th.

Well, we have had a busy weekend, again.
Friday night we had our fab God-children to stay with us. We watched shrek 2 and built a splendiferous den with sheets and duvets and cushions.

Yesterday we had a very hard decision to make about Jake. Unfortunately we have not been able to train anything into him. The final straw was some very aggressive behavior (as if the hedgehog wasnt enough!) and we decided that we weren't going to risk him attacking someone else. So we took him back to the Cat and Dog shelter. We will miss him.

Mike is finding school challenging and we are pretty tired and sick of this little trough that we seem to have been in for a while. A peak would go down very well sometime soon.
Fran has an interesting essay to do, and the house is a chronic mess again. We are really looking forwards to at least getting the old bank accounts back to at least zero sometime soon, but it looks to be longer to that point than we ever imagined. Still the Lord provides for us.

We had a good weekend, but are both suitably tired to start the week.

Mike has had a lovely time on half term and made the garden look spiffing and also the hall is in progress.

We went to 1st Whittington scout camp this weekend in Walesby forest in Nottinghamshire. It was fun, cold, wet, insomniac and excessively porky.

We are really tired, and grotty, and it is cold and dark. It sucks.

Just really really looking forwards to Mike having some time off next week for half term.

It has been a hard month, and I (F) am looking forwards to November for a little 'new start' feeling.

We are missing ste, but not as much as jake is.

Well, this week we say goodbye to our friend Ste, who has been staying for a week. He is off to the USA to try his luck with the American dream etc. We are going to be very sad- but not as sad as Jake who is Ste's best friend.

2 weeks left until half term for Mike, and the last few weeks we have been really weary and dispondent. Life is sometimes very hard work- and having to get up and leave the house in the dark, and then return in the dark too- well, thats all a bit depressing.

Today I just found out that if I was to work next year as a dental therapist for the year, at 2 days a week I would earn more money than I would in my compulsory apprentice year. Rubbish.

On the plus side we are going to have a little weekend holiday this weekend in the Lakes. Man, do we need it.

We have a new friend. His name is Jake. He is a Jack Russell. He is quite old, and on Thursday he got 'the chop'. He has got rather odd legs, as a result of mistreatment, but is very friendly, and a good companion for milo.

We therefore have a new problem of border control. He has a knack of thwarting even the most ingenious of border methods... and so we are going to be getting a rather expensive fence in the next week.

Other than the new addition, we have had a busy week, and Fran is suffering (loudly) with sinus problems. Mike's work is tiring and he returns home after every day with either a 'win, lose or draw' with the kids.

This weekend Mike is taking the beavers to camp up at Kielder, and fran is on Sunday school. We are really tired, but have found more routine in the mornings, with reading and praying together.

On a personal note I (F) am really struggling to know what i want to do with life, as I do really need to have made a decision this year before November really. I guess the temptation of wantinng to pursue career is vying with a temptation with wanting to settle down and have a lovely lifestyle; and overlaying all this; like an acetate sheet- it the call to take our skills and talents and use them further afield than the UK.

Anyone got any ideas? Pray if you can!`

Diplodocus

So this is probably one of the worst blog photos ever, but I didn’t have a pocket for a proper camera, so ended up using my phone.
Last night I went to the Natural History Museum, where I partied with a diplodocus!
It was brilliant! It was the finale of a trip I have taken to the International Dental Research Organisation. It was fantastic and I was able to do a presentation on Wednesday morning, which was a brilliant experience.
I have missed Mike lots though. Milo has apparently been chewing the house up without his normal running schedule.

Well, the blur of all that travel and busyness has just about given way to the blur of the next weeks until Christmas I suppose!

Today was our trial day- Mike has to leave the house at 715 latest in the morning. When we were in Mozambique we got into a really good routine of getting up, having breakfast, and having a time of prayer devoting our day to God. Ibelieve that this regular routine is why we were both feeling so good, and why mike's tummy is much improved.

We managed quite well, and he left at 730 (due to lost keys) but I can honestly say that it has vastly changed my experience of the day.
This morning I did the dog, went to the gym and got to Outreach by 9. It was strange being back in the dentist seat- after my last few experiences of 'stool' 'upturned box' and the like.

I shared experiences with a guy on my course- Loz. He has been quite an interesting member of my group. I just really like him, and know that he is somewhere on a journey- but I can't really figure out where. He has been to Tanzania for his elective. Whilst on his trip he encounterred an abortion performed by Catholic Doctors, with brutality and hatred. I was shocked to hear his testimony about it, and I am trying to see how God is using this in Loz' life. Maybe it is to highlight the presence of sin in all our lives? Maybe it is to point him to Jesus and not some religion? He made a comment about 'Happy Clappy's' today- I am just so burdened for this guy. I will continue to pray for him.

Also our friend who has recently had a big win playing at a casino... I read this morning in Matthew that we cannot serve 2 masters, it has to be God or Money.

Kruger Park Debrief

hello there.

We are set to leave Mozambique in about 3 hours. Our route home is fairly tortuous, with a stop in Johannesburg, one in Dubai and then arriving in Gatwick on Saturday morning to drive up to Newcastle. We would appreciate prayer for travelling mercies.

We have spent 2 days in Kruger park south Africa, being debriefed and thinking about what we can take back from our trip (not just presents!!)

We are excited to be missionaries. Check out some of the awesome things that God has created. Now.. who said we all evolved from Dust? However, don't you think this Baby Baboon looks like Mike?

Chronological Bible Teaching

Over the last three days we have been taught about how to teach the entire bible as one story, God's gospel beginning at Genesis 3v15 and it's fulfillment when the deliverer came. One of the summaries which was give for evangelists was:-

John 3v36
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

John 3v16
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 1v12
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

This was the evangelists version which with explanation allows the believer to show why God is angry, what his salvation plan is, and how we can become children of God.

It was amazing for both of us to see a selection of the leaders of the denomination and their congregations learn how the picture comes together. The best bit was when Juka, the ECC (Every Community for Christ) coordinator, asked if the seminar leader, Franz, could translate the material into a new language for an unreached people group who he is taking a team to later this month.

Tomorrow we're off to CAM again. This time the school is full and we should get a better understanding of school life. Mike will be teaching tomorrow as the Maths teacher is not arriving till monday. (Geometry, statistics and discrete mathematics). He's enjoying this a lot!

This weekend is the Team Field Council. This is also going to be amazing as it's a time to discuss the vision for the field here and the work which God is doing through the team. We feel so blessed to be part of it.

DENTAL OUTREACH

So, we are totally shattered. Yesterday was a really big day for us.

Mike was teaching maths in the missionary school and I (F) was in one of the very remote villages doing some dental outreach. There was no electricity in the village, so we worked until it got dark. It was pretty amazing stuff. I pulled about 15 teeth and did over 30 check-ups( by headtorch!) We gave out boxes and boxes of toothpaste, brushes and mouthwash. It was really cool to get the village leaders doing oral hygeine instruction for those people who were patiently queuing.

God was so gracious to us yesterday- with amazing help with language from a missionary Kid (the wonderful Kimberley)and also one of the church leaders who spoke the tribal language. I was able to pray with each of the patients for extractions. THIS IS MOZAMBIQUE.

Updates from Africa, Wedding anniversary

Well, we are here, and have been for nearly a week. Our luggage took a little time to catch up with us, but that is ok.

It is pretty hot here, although yesterday was cooler. We are having a very interesting time, so far we have been in the villages of Kongolatte and T3 and Maputo. We have been to an amazing spectacle of 8 people being baptised in the river, and a demonic deliverance. We are picking up Portuguese and Fran has picked up a few cute children. Pictures to follow in the next entry.

We are staying with a fantastic couple- Ann and Dave Dendrick who are helping us to eat heaps (!) and to get up nice and early. (Yesterday we LEFT at 6am!)

We are moving today to the Christian Academy in Maputo- where we will be based for the next week. Fran is going to be doing some dental work this week too.

We have just 2 sleeps to go before we join the crush to get out of the UK bound for Mozambique.

We are currently staying at the Dumas wonderful house in Surrey, as today was Charlottes Baptism. She spoke beautifully and we then went on to have a fantabulous meal c/o Juliet and Simon. The rest of the day was spent by the pool- can't be a bad way to start a mission trip really can it?

Observations, Perspectives

I am blogging from Dublin. I have had a really good day- although I am rather tired after coming in at 3am from an accidental night out last night!

I was very impressed at the commitment and attitude of the carers of some of the patients that were completely dependent.
Where I was able to form a rapport with the carer ( in several cases) I asked a question;
‘ What do you find the most difficult when it comes to their care, and what do you find the most rewarding?’

Perhaps the most interesting and important response was from a mum in South Tyneside with a 21 year old son with learning difficulties and a mental age of 7, and another son aged 4 with Down’s Syndrome. She said that there was so much that was rewarding that she couldn’t possibly answer that; she also said, without hesitation that the hardest thing was the times of the day when tooth brushing was needed. This is a common theme that I have observed in the treatment of patients with both Learning disabilities and also Down’s Syndrome. This mum also went on to explain that it was because her first son was so rewarding, that she decided to adopt her son with Down’s Syndrome.

An Irish 19 year old that I saw was also very interesting. He had had surgery for a malignant teratoma in his brain. I asked him what was the hardest aspects of being ill, and were there any positives. He was adamant that he wouldn’t have changed what had happened for the world, and that it was the best thing that ever happened to him- and that he wants to be an oncologist. His only gripe was that his younger brother and sister don’t want to fight with him anymore.

I am humbled

What's the Craic?

I (F) am writing this in Dublin. First impressions of the city is that it is very busy, very dirty and very expensive.
The dental hospital is nice and modern, although I haven't had that much chance to have a good look about yet. I am just waiting for my room at the guesthouse, and then I shall scurry off to afternoon sedation clinic.

It was sad leaving mike and Milo this morning, although I am sure that he will be having a lovely time without me- I did notice that he bought 3 pizzas, I am sure that he won't be getting his 5 a day, although I hope to be proved wrong.

I sat next to a brilliant, lovely man on the plane, he was quite old (before you worry about me!) and ended up telling him all about Sunday School and our trip to Mozambique. His name is Paul and we chatted about his Catholic family. Please pray for him, I am; I hope that God has made a difference in his life. He also predicted that I would have triplets... I think that is wierd, worrying and bizarre.

We are coming to the end of term, and boy are we ready for that!

Both of us are tired and crotchety, and we can't wait for our recharging weekend in Dublin where we shall hopefully be able to have some time to pray and to fix our eyes on God before Mozambique.

We have some further news on Mozambique now; we are fully saturated with toothpaste, mouthwash and condoms (!) to take away with us for the health outreach program. We also have our travel insurance and some of the money that we need to be able to go to Mozambique without setting ourselves into debt. However; we know how this has worked in the past, and are pretty comfortable with the situation- but if you do want to be involved with this project please let us know.

We are praying for an extra (free) bag to fill with supplies to take with us, so please could you pray for Emirates as we try to sort this out.

We have also got another prayer request; Milo is currently without supervision from the 27th until the 3rd of August, due to other care falling through. We could do with some guidance about this. He is a little bit mad, and needs 2 walks a day- so it is too much to lump him with just anyone. We will need to be thinking about kennels sooner rather than later- but this will obviously add to our expenses. Please can you pray that it will be clear for us what to do for this 6 days.

Pray for our trip to Chesterfield this week, we are really looking forwards to it.

Long time coming

Sorry about the lack of bloggage recently. I think it is fair to say that we have had the hardest couple of months ever... but things are much better now. So; first a little update about what has been happening, and then on to tell more about Mozambique and all the exciting things that are happening.

Well, we got Milo, and he is now fully integrated into the Gaunt family. He is currently at my feet; and is very settled, loving his walks and runs , eating cow poop and unfortunately the sofa!

Mike passed his course with Merit in the end! (after a lot of stress!) which is so excellent. I (F) have passed all my exams, and have got some fantabulous patients to take into final year. I have managed to get my assessments mainly completed and now am officially in my 'elective' period; doing some work in 'special needs dentistry.'

We have had a hard time this last few weeks and have valued the support that we have both had from family, friends, uni and each other. We had a night out for the end of Mike's course which I still have the bruises from. It was a good laugh, we had to break into our house in the end though- and out again in the morning! As you can see I have changed my image a little.

We've just had a really lovely day. We spent the day hosting our first BBQ of the summer in our half done garden. A few friends joined us for food, some chat, drink and of course wii.

We also visited a rescue dog called Milo. He is a Shorthaired German Pointer and he is lovely, hence we've got the house inspection on Wednesday by the RSPCA. What do you think?

Well, Happy 9month anniversary to us!!!
So, amusingly, just now we have proved the rumour wrong... we did not get married because I (F) was preggers!

We haven't blogged in a while- due to lots of reason, other stuff going on, and F having her own blog to vent some stuff on...

But, in the Gaunty houseold..
Mike has again been having some problems with his tummy, and has been off work this past week. He has been really sick and I (F) am really praying that the cycle doesn't start again when he goes back on Tuesday.

I(f) have had my right wisdom teeth out- and am in a bit of pain . We had a lovely day at Lindesfarne on Thursday - despite the rain, as things have been a bit hard here- it felt like we hit a calm in the storm.
Mike is back at school today, and *hurray* he wasn't sick this morning....5 weeks of teaching to go !!

Mozambique

I haven't blogged in a while, but lots of exciting things have happened recently.
We got an email from the wife of Matthew Glass- the guy who wrote the song 'giver' that Tim sang for us at the wedding.... And Matthew is a teacher! a Maths teacher. Awesome. And Lindy (his wife) is a student! sound familiar?!

Yesterday we got the confirmation that we are going to Mozambique- for 3 weeks in August. Today we got the emails about the ministry and what we need to be getting done to get ready. It is really exciting actually. I can't wait. I am going to spend tomorrow night in prayer, for God's blessing on our trip- in terms of provision and His hand in all the plans and organisation.

Mike is away at Keele uni for a maths teaching conference, so I am hanging on my own at the moment- quite ok actually. I am just getting excited about seeing him on Saturday!
Off to Majorca with Amy next week, should be a really good time.

I went to see Step up 2 the streets yesterday- and it is brilliant. I am working on a new more 'street' look and am currently listening to some awesome jazz R and B. I just wanna dance now!

Cooking, sewing, not much cleaning

Well, I have now watched the first of the Delia cheats TV shows and I have made the shepherd's pie...and it was really really nice.... so I have decided that it isn't herasy as some are saying- but instead GENIUS!

The hosue is a chronic mess and it feels rather clostrophobic at the moment- there are large items of DIY equipment everywhere and piles of stuff everywhere... including junk mail- Man SAVE THE TREES! we don't want the leaflets, really we dont.

This morning I noticed a jolly lot of birds in our garden ( our compost bin has fallen over and I am too scared of rats to go and sort it out)
The verse 'does your father in heaven not provide for the birds in the sky.'....came to my head- how much more will He provide for us!! This is exciting as I have been beginning to think about the funds that we need for Mozambique and the lack of income we have after April this year. With the credit crunch who knows what is going to happen with the mortgage... But HE will provide.

Mum has got a new sewing machine (It cost more than our car) and so she is passing on hers to me. In a kind of blessing/um, curse, I have palmed the old relic off to Amy. It is rather kitch and would look amazing in Jo Dick's house but Amy gets it for future fashion designer career opportunities. It took us an hour to get it threaded up!

Alton towers, Stress and Easter

We went to Alton Towers on Saturday. It was really fun; we went with Mike's school (I was honorary teacher) It rained. Lots. Air was my (F) least favourite. The best one was the pinball or Nemesis. On the way back we had to sit up the back of the bus with the year 11 boys. I have been thoroughly educated and humbled.

Our God is not just for contented affluent middle class self righteous people. He is true for those lads too. I just have no understanding of how. I kept praying that I could see how His promises are real for those kids from Shields. At the moment I can't do that- but it is a humungous crack in what I believe if the words Jesus said about 'ALL who believe in Him will have eternal life' are only partially true. I am praying for understanding here, and it is frustrating.

We are having a hard time at the moment too. Mike has just got so much on, and he never seems to be able to have an evening off or time to relax. His lesson planning is pretty hardcore at the moment and his tummy is playing up again.

I am actually generally doing well, my methods of coping with the stress have been a little wonky and so I am hoping to be able to start scrapbooking and possibly sewing again when mum passes over her sewing machine!!

I don't really know what we are doing for Easter- at the moment plans are up in the air.

OMS- in CARDIFF

We have now recovered after our weekend away in Cardiff with OMS. It was a really good time to meet the people that we have been conversing with and also to see what God is doing in Ecuador, Haiti and right within us.

A guy called James Mckee spoke and unpacked the Lord's prayer from Luke 11.
'Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
3 Give us each day the food we need,
4 and forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.'

We also had our interview and 13 hours on the train. I felt the nearness of God in a way that I haven't done for over a year and that was really very special and encouraging.

Bigg weekend

We had a brilliant weekend with the Crosslands. The sea was icy- and unfortunately- even though we both really really wanted to, where was not time for me (F) and Andy to swim.

Shopping was productive and curry and a few drinks went down well.
After coming home to play on the wii, I whooped ste's ass at boxing, but on my knock out punch I accidently stepped on Mike's new phone and the LCD screen smashed. Oops- the win was priceless though.

We are feeling a little stressed at the moment as this weekend we are heading down to cardiff for a weekend with the folks from OMS- who we hope to be going to MoZambique with.

Dentistry, bugs and the Crosslands!!!

We are really exctited to be having Andy and Liz to come to stay with us this weekend. It is really nice to have people to stay and will be fun to have a 4 player game on the Wii!

A curry and a boogie in the big-market is a distinct possibility.

Dentistry is going really well actually- this week I have done my first crown prep and finished my first root canal treatment: and tomorrow we are learning to cannulate each other.

We have both been a bit sicky and down this last few days, I think that it was a virus of some sort- and it is annoying to both be ill (no sympathy) and also be ill with something that isnt really bad enough to take time off. So we have been grumbly.

Last night we went for a 'date' at the Denton for tea- really nice actually, but after beating mike at top gear top trumps I think that we left them at the pub. Gutted.

Majorca, wii , Chesterfield and Heaven

This week has been a strange week- on Wednesday night we had our first time apart since we have been married- I know that sounds soppy- but it is amazing how two independent people can become so quickly bonded and IT WAS SO WIERD being apart! Mike was down in Chesterfield seeing family (Matt thrashed him at bowling I heard!)

News this week is that I (F) and Amy are going to Majorca in April!( 44 days time) for a little bitta R & R.

Also of note we have bought a Wii!

I gave in- but there are some conditions: it hasnt been opened yet and it will stay like that until Mike has handed his assignment in this afternoon.

Charlotte came to see us yesterday and we are looking forwards to going bowling with the Morley's tonight. Double dating and all that.

This week I have been mainly meditating on God's individual methods with each of us. He made us and He knows exactly what we need to bring us to heaven.. Isaiah 29 is about the farmer using different methods for different crops, and I am feeling more and more that it is ok that God is using some more painful methods from time to time. We are gonna flower and bear fruit in a major way if He is the farmer.

Valentines day, and Mike did a sterling job with the old roses- awesome.

Tonight- we are hopefully off to the beach with Amy and Jo, this week has been a bit odd, with both of us needing more sleep than we had planned for, I stayed in bed this morning and we have both been 'napping' in the evenings, before pretending to do work.

I (F) am trying to learn portuguese- so far greetings are as good as it gets I am also reading a book by Mia Couto about the Mozambique war.

I havent really got too much exciting news- apart from the fact that I went to university yesterday with odd shoes on (one grey and one white) classic.

A week after my trip to london I have started reading the book recommended to me ' Skills based learning for caring for a loved one with an eating disorder' It is really interesting and the insight is helpful, hopefully helping us to create an environment where this thinking in no longer part of our reality.

The Interview Process

I'm a bit excited. I went down for my interview on Thursaday and it became apparent that they needed a new teacher for April. This meant that my attitude to the day changed and i became more relaxed. I really enjoyed my day and i thought it would be great experience for future interviews.

However at the end of the process the Principal came in and said 'We're going to hire two people, one for April and one for September' and you can guess who the September position was for.

I entered a state of shock, and as they asked me to go and accept the position i found myself more nervous than i had been all day.

Looking back it was God's plan all along, from day one his hand was in it. They took my application form late, for a position which i wasn't really available for, and one which i am not qualified for yet. I should have realised as He prompted me on all along but hey, His plan always comes through.

Well I (F) had the most funny and unexpected Pancake day ever yesterday.

We had a really good time in the lakes at the weekend, and it was really snowy-

but as soon as we got back to Newcastle it feels just the same, like everything is just pressing in on us. This week we were meant to be out everynight and Mike has his interview and I am going to London on Thursday........all culmonating in a horrid feeling of stressed out-ness.

I decided to go for a walk- and in my huff I only got to Denton Burn. I felt really led to look at what was going on inside the little methodist church- and it was a women's meeting, so I thought I might join in!

I was however, quite a celebrity- being so young, and before I knew it I was talking to Gladys about her dentures and trying to deflect attentions of the choir mistress..... But, I have to say I had the most wonderful experience of God's love in that room... I learned about the past and about how my marital huff is a common experience to all married women. I laughed and sang and had a thouroughly amusing evening- which I'm sure will be the stuff of anecdotes for a while.

When I left I was in such a good mood, Thank you Lord for taking me to where I needed to be last night.

The hymn we sang had the chorus ' I need thee,O I need thee, every hour I need thee, O bless me now my saviour, I come to thee.' And He did bless me.

Exciting times

We have some really exciting news..... OM have got in contact with us! as per prayer request.

We have been discussed in Indonesia, Mozambique, Haiti and Equador and are very humbled to think that God might be positioning us in one of these countries this Summer.

We have an appointment with Pastor Paul next Tuesday to pray about it all- but in the mean time we are praying and please could you pray that we have some direction from God.
Afterall- there is no point at all in doing something that we want to do if it isn't His plan.

This week has been a spiritually high week for me (F) although M is feeling a little stressed with the house and in general.

M's placement in North Shields is going really well so far and I am really enjoying dentistry. We are going to the Lake District this weekend to have a rest and to get some space from some of the pressures of being in Newcastle.(this is us in snowy Shap)

Busy few days

Well, we have a really busy few days...
Dad (f) is coming to stay tonight and tomorrow as Cheadle Hulme are in the Daily Mail cup final in Tynemouth. This is exciting as he hasn't seen our bathroom or all the work we have done since the wedding.

Then.. On Saturday Sophie and Natty are coming to stay over for the first time. We have been advised that this may steer us clear of children for a while - although they are just so well behaved that I think it could have the opposite effect.

Uni is pretty slow for me (F) as I have been on oral surgery and there hasn't been very much going on. Mike has started his second placement in North Shields, and so far likes it. Our main prayer points this week are:

That we have some information from OMS about mission opportunities.
That we are able to impress upon Dad how God has provided for us
That we have a good time with the kids at the weekend.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I hope you have a happy new year, and an exciting and interesting new year. In fact I hope you, and we, have a challenging 2008. Because challenges are what make life colourful. They have made us grow in the last year, and even coming to the place where you can face a challenge takes quite a lot of strength.

I (F) have been really challenged recently about being content and relaxed in who I am. It has taken me a while to even realise that I needed to look at this area.
It seems that everyone around me is discontented with their bodies, their hair, their financial situation, their husband, their job, their house and holidays. I guess that I have been fitting in with this for too long. In fact I am not the same, and because of God's seal of approval on me, I can and must come to a place where I can say THANKYOU for all that I am and have and not look to have or to be other things.

I think that thankfulness maybe the answer to the prideful 'i deserve better' or 'I should be like someone else'. This may even help me to stop being so covetous, to stop wanting what I dont have, which is the starting point for other sin in my life.

I wonder if, in 2008 I might move closer to accepting the challenge. I want the power that comes from knowing that I am because He made me this way.

I mean... when things are getting more sorted in terms of our day to day life it is so so so easy to forget that we are in the middle of a massive battle to seek and save the lost. Unless we make an earnest effort to plan how we are going to fit into God's great commission we just wont.

I believe in the priority of seeking Jesus in a personal way, but how come it is easier to prioritise just about everything else. Maybe if I could look at things in a different way. Instead of feeling guilty that my life is revolving around petty and insignificant things such as housework, dentistry and exercise- maybe I could use these in planning my personal strategy of front line fighting?

I was talking to Anna Mcall this week about being whole- about liking who we are. I think this is absolutely fundamental in the great commission. I mean.. who on earth else could be God's ambassador in my seminar group but me? Who else could be God's ambassador in bacteria-geeks apart from Annie? I don't want to have to appoligise for my life or my personality again. God made me this way and He made my niche. If I am on fire I am going to set alight all the people that God has set me amoungst by giving me my individuality.

Things are good at the moment, and I am doing Sunday school at the weekend (yay) Still got lots of patients (awesome) and looking forwards to the weekend.

No... we do not need a bigger house!

We are at Tuesday again- who knows how? The weekend was good fun actually, on Sunday we hosted housegoup lunch in our little house- it was cozy, but I dont think there were any complaints....good food by Val and others- who cares about a little paint stain here and there!

Paul spoke this week about persistence in petitioning God. I (F) have been thinking about this quite a lot since, about how the Lord just knows me so well and knows how easily I lose interest. When I come to Him He always seems to act right away- like with Mike finding fellowship at his school just days after i started mythering the Lord in earnest about it. I just don't have the staying power- I seem to get sidetracked or apathetic so quickly.

Well, apart from the God of all creation moving in our lives personally (!!) we are pretty suburban really. Mike is working hard on lesson plans and Fran isnt. Facebook is hard work....
I (F) have suddenly got loads of patients with decay which is brilliant and WE ARE GOING TO MANCHESTER THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can't ask for more really. Mike is excited by a 3 hr drive to see the In-laws for some more dental/schools chat. Im sure(!)

flat pack victory!

We have a bedroom! hooray! Friday night was super exciting- a visit to Ikea (the KA transport issue solved by Max and Keith) followed by the floor starting to go down.

Then, Saturday morning the floor was finished, and the rest of the day was devoted to the erection of the new furniture (with welcome interludes from the Keyes and lil steve) Then........ Series 4 Spooks, ok, so we are already on disc 3 of 4 ( it is a bit addictive)

The furniture continued to eat into Sunday- but Mike showed his considerable strength and skill and the three door wardrobe was born, conveniently before top gear.

The week seems to have started a little too quickly, like we are on a bit of a treadmill until Christmas now.

I (F) have had a rather massive realisation about my need for some Christian fellowship as Im feeling a little 'out of it' in terms of my relationship with the Lord. I am praying about where I can get this and how.

Tonight we are going with the scouts to a fireworks party at Elswick ( Im scared)

A bit sad

Well, this week was going to be rather stressful as Fran freaked out about making the house clean-ish and about making the garden ok- for Mother Dixon to come to stay. However- instead... she cancelled- so we are going to stay living in our filth and scratty garden for another week!

This got me thinking about how I always want to get things sorted if we have 'people coming' for example housegroup on Wednesday....but when its just us then im not so concerned about having painting stuff in the hall and the ironing board left out. I wonder why this is? I guess if I can make it all spiritual for a moment; my life is a little like this. I tend to have a great big Mary-poppins clean up and repent when I remember that Jesus is coming back and I will stand before my righteous God.. but most of the time I am quite happy to have a bit of petty sin hanging around.

Now- dont get me wrong... I am in not comparing my mum to God!
I do think that it is quite interesting that my mum would really not be that fussed about a bit of unfinished paintwork- she would probably pick up the roller herself-

God is the ultimate helper actually. Just now we have His Son to take all our rubbish on His shoulders and His spirit to help us to clear up all that mess in our lives, as He is coming and He is righteous.

Well, Mike is on half term, and IM NOT!! It is actually quite lovely as I keep getting lifts in to uni and haven't had to cycle up the horrible hill!

Things with us are really good actually, after the engagement party of Mike's cousin last weekend we had some chill out time in Shap. Other highlights of this week have included a late night dash to Blockbuster to get the next series of Spooks and also finding TIMES SQUARE church does online video sermons.

The David Wilkerson sermon on 'the ability to be stirred' was really good and I can recommend it.

We are in Newcastle this weekend, eagerly awaiting moving in to our bedroom next week. and then mum is coming to stay.EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

The news

Well, we survived scout camp- infact it went really well, Mike was in charge, but the kids we doing activities with the camp staff, and it all went smoothly.

Since that, life has settled a little with Tuesday night being our theatre trip c/o the Harness family. We went to see 'the carman' which was good but we didnt really have a clue what was going on.

The rest of the week was 'ok' although Fran is feeling demoralised with dentisting. Mike was in school all week and so we didnt have much energy apart from to go to Ikea at the weekend.

The next few weeks look quite busy, going to engagement parties all over the country and mike starts his long placement in morpeth.

The house

As you may know, we got the keys to our house 2 weeks before we got married and hit the ground running, in terms of decorating. We've now done the lounge, the spare room, the study and the kitchen was already done.

VERY exciting development is that we have decided to get a builder/plasterer/plumber to help. This has been a big and expensive decision but we are at peace with it. So... the downstairs bathroom, loo and our room may be finished in the next month or so... hoooray!

This weekend coming up is scout camp, which Mike has organised, I (F) am cooking and we are just really praying that the high pressure weather front continues for the camp fire etc.

Uni is going well, Mike is loving his placement starting in Morpeth, although there is a LOT of work with the PGCE! I (F) am just finding my feet with 4th year dentistry as a married woman!.

We did it.

Just a little update to say thank you so much to everyone who came and helped us to have a brilliant day. Also to let you know what we are up to now.

Well....this week Mike has been in his junior school observation placement in wardley (gateshead) and I (F) am in my second week back of fourth year! We have slowed down rather alot on the DIY due to lots on in the evenings and also being just shattered from having to get up at normal 'work' time.

Still, it will take a little getting used to- and im sure the house will get done.

We realise that you might want to buy us a gift, however, it is not compulsory and your presence is much more of a gift than anything that you could buy us!

It is really hard to gauge, but we decided to make a gift list at ARGOS so that we didn't end up with 10 toasters! This has some basics on it for starting domestic life together for the first time.

We are doing really well- always a good thing to be able to blog! Mike has his endoscopy on Monday with a Doctor who is in our housegroup. Please be praying for a diagnosis so that we can get on with getting back to normal. Fran has a consultant appointment at the RVI on Friday- so in general it is a progress week!

so... we are looking for somewhere to live now, and doing the 'gift list' which is a bit wierd.

We still need addresses for the wedding invites asap- please get them to us!

first week back at uni

So apart from nasty revision for mike and the start of term and root canal treatment for Fran, this week has been quite uneventful. We would really like to, however, say just how good God is being to us at the moment. 2 offers of honeymoon accomodation and some great progress in the lives of several close friends- i can honestly say that God is answering prayer. He cares for us. Please pray for our bridesmaids; charlotte (in france) sarah slater (dentist) amy (artist) and Laura (sister)
Mike's ushers would benefit from a prayer too- Ben (brother of Fran) Aryan, little steve, Matt and Joel.

Just thinking this week that this time last year we didnt even know that each other existed! we have just put our money in for the National Student conference again- we met here last year!

Siberia and St.Petersburg

Well we are back after our little adventure!
Some highlights of our trip were:

1/ Going to see'the Nutcracker'.
2/going sledging in Siberia,
3/Mike's 21st with Aaron, Jo and John in St.Petersburg,
4/New Year with lots of drunk people and fireworks,(no- actually that wasnt a highlight-just plain scary)

also pretty cool that God used us lots- 1 girl made a committment to follow Jesus and we had divine appointments with folks- including Alex on the bus in Moscow and even the cabby on the way from the airport (after 37 hours with no sleep!) please pray for these people.

It was just really good to spend some time together- now it is 7 months exactly until we are wed!

Fran is going wedding dress pattern shopping and to buy the material tomorrow. The guest list and budget are drafted. Its coming !

Just a little update- today 8/12/06 we have the venue, the church, each other and not much else! However- we do have our Russian Visas through- and are going for a second viewing on a lovely house in Fenham next Friday. We are having Fran's mum to stay on Friday and at the end of next weekend hope to have 4 bridesmaids dresses and a patterm and possibly material for the wedding dress. Man...its all happening !!

So.. we are off to Russia on the 23rd of December- the itinery being:

Manchester-Frankfurt-Moscow- Krasnoyarsk- Moscow-St.Petersburg-Manchester.
